General and practical information

  • Arrival and departure: The workshop will start on Monday March 23. Participants can arrive as early as Sunday March 22 in the afternoon. The workshop will end on Friday March 27 after lunch.

  • Conference center: The workshop will take place in the Niseko Village Hilton hotel. Niseko prides itself as being one of the most exciting ski resorts in the world, with a record amount of powder snowfall every year. The hotel houses a ski gondola, which is 30 feet from the lobby. Arrival to Niseko is usually done by taking a shuttle (~2 hours) from Chitose International airport (Sapporo). Chitose is connected with tens of daily flights from Tokyo, direct flights from most countries in Asia and soon a direct flight from Helsinki.

  • Talks: Our plan is to have research talks on Mon. Tue. Thu. and Fri. on that week. The talks will run from 8:00 to 11:00, and later, after an afternoon break designed to foster research discussions, another set of talks from 16:00 to 19:00. Wednesday will be reserved for a poster presentation session. The workshop will finish on Friday, noon.

  • Fees: Registration fees to attend the workshop will cover room charges (single room, 5 nights from Sunday night to Friday morning), breakfast from Mon. to Fri. and dinner from Sun. to Thu. (to be taken in one of the 5 hotel restaurants), and of course access to the meeting rooms and coffee breaks during talks and posters. Registration fees (regardless of the number of days you will attend) will total about 165,000 JPY, which, at this time, amounts to about 1,520 USD or 1,355 EUR. Should you attend the workshop, you will have to pay these fees in full to the hotel 2 months before the workshop date, around January 15, 2020.

  • Weather: The weather is cold and snowy in Niseko at this period of the year, and all participants should have warm clothes and good shoes.
