A post-doctoral position is opening in the Data learning team of Ecole Normale Superieure, lead by Professor Stephane Mallat. The goal is to pursue a fundamental research project to analyze the mathematical and numerical properties of deep network learning. The research team is working both on mathematical aspects and on applications to image and audio applications but also to other type of problems including quantum and statistical physics, and chemistry. More information is available at: http://www.di.ens.fr/data/scattering/. A problem and literature review is available in the article: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1601.04920v1.pdf.
It is recommended to have a strong mathematical or physics background, and a good knowledge of statistical learning. This research can involve a wide spectrum of mathematics, including harmonic analysis (wavelets), group theory and statistics. The research also includes important numerical experimentations, which requires a good experience in data processing.
The beginning of the position will be in the fall 2016, with some flexibility. The position is renewable after one year.
Please send applications and questions to Stephane Mallat (stephane[DOT]mallat[AT]ens[DOT]fr), before June 20th 2016. Applications should be in a single pdf file including:
