Lectures will be given by experts in computer vision and machine learning. The target audience are PhD students, MSc students, advanced undergraduates as well as academics and practitioners in the field. Lectures will be complemented by practical sessions, where participants will obtain hands-on experience with the discussed material. Participants will also have an opportunity to bring and discuss their work during a poster session.
The summer school takes place at the ENS Ulm campus in central Paris next to the Pantheon, Sorbonne and Jardin du Luxembourg.

Important dates
Application and Registration
Registration fee is 400 Euros and covers the lectures, practical exercises, handouts, coffee breaks, lunches, receptions and a banquet on the Seine.
Scope
Some of the notable recent successes in automated visual recognition are results of combining advanced visual representations together with powerful machine learning techniques. The objective of this summer school is to provide an overview of some of the latest advances in visual recognition together with the related machine learning algorithms. A particular emphasis will be given on topics related to recognition of humans, objects, actions and dynamic scene understanding in video.

The final program of the summer school is available here. The program includes 28 hours of lectures, 3 hours of practical sessions, two receptions, one poster session on Tuesday and a banquet on the boat on Wednesday evening.
Poster presentations
There will be a poster session, where participants are encouraged to bring and present their recent work. Participants will get feedback on their posters and the possibility to discuss their work with their peers. The best poster will be awarded a prize.

Accommodation
A number of student accommodations are provided on the ENS campus 45, rue d'Ulm, see ENS map. The check-in to the ENS rooms is scheduled on Sunday 24/7 during 2pm-8pm.

Social Events (updated 22-07-2011)
We organize three social events: Welcome Reception at 19:00 on Monday 25/7, Wine and Cheese Reception at 17:30 on Tuesday 26/7 as well as Cocktail Buffet on the Seine on Wednesday 27/7 starting at 19:00. Monday and Tuesday receptions are organized at ENS, the reception on Tuesday is combined with the Poster Session, see program here. On Wednesday we organize a Cruise on the Seine with food, drinks and a disco party, don't miss it!
