In this talk, I will summarize some work on the use of Levy processes in modeling networks with non-standard traffic (long-range dependent, highly variable). I will explain why I believe that alpha-stable, spectrally positive, totally skewed processes are suitable models. Using stochastic calculus, some results on the stationary distribution of multi-dimensional Shorokhod-reflected processes can be derived. Also, extensions of classical "queueing" formulae for "general" stochastic fluid systems will be presented.
