ROM files are required to emulate the HP 48 calculators with MESS.
The ROMs can be downloaded in the following table. There are two ZIP archives, one for the S series (S/SX) and one for the G series (G/GX/G+), containing various ROM revisions. The archives should be put still compressed into MESS'roms sub-directory.

HP 48 ROMs are also available as individual files at hpcalc.org. You may also want to manually dump the ROM of your HP 48 using a program such as ROM Upload (available at hpcalc.org).
In these cases, HP 48S/SX ROM files must named sxrom-v, where v is a lowercase ROM revision letter, and stored in the hp48sx sub-directory of the roms directory. HP 48G/GX/G+ ROMS must be named gxrom-v and appear in the hp48gx sub-directory of the roms directory.
Note that the HP 48 MESS drivers take, as a convention, to pack two nibbles in each byte, with the nibble of lowest address in the least significant position. Some ROMs floating on the Internet have swapped nibbles. To check this, look with an hexadecimal viewer: the first byte should be 32, not 23.
